I stumbled upon this cute and charming little book in my Kindle library and picked it because it was written by one of my favourite authors, Ruskin Bond.  

In A Little Book of Magical Plants, the renowned author makes us look at plants with respect and awe. This cute little book, written
and illustrated in green, is bound to delight adults and children alike.   

Bond begins his little book about his favourite plants, shrubs, and trees with his lucky rubber plant, which he says loves to move. It grows all over the place. He shares quirky anecdotes, like how much he loves an aloo–french bean curry and how the tomato, a staple in Indian cuisine, was first considered poisonous.    

His keen powers of observation and fondness for his plants shine through in prose that is easy to understand. He makes us notice the magic of plants, which we often overlook.

As a plant lover, this little book is right up my street, and I recommend it to every plant lover or anyone who wishes to discover the magic of plants.  

 

Ruskin Bond laments that even though we have inherited a green and generous planet, we yearn for the moon and other planets where not a blade of grass can grow.He is also quick to say that only humans can disrupt the forces of nature, upset the balance of nature, and bring disaster upon the planet.

A stitch in time and being fit and fine.

  A nasty freakish fall in my kitchen does damage to the palm of my left hand, which is also my working hand and has me literally in stitches this New Year. Praise God, it could have been worse. My head is intact and I do not have to contend with any broken bones.  There are all these diets flying around, I have tried a couple, succeeded and failed and tried again. At 54 you want to dress well and look good. What does looking good entail, especially for women of 50+?  A healthy weight. For some of us, a healthy weight is hard to come by.   Sattu: A Superfood.     I was introduced to Sattu at a healthcare programme and have grown fond of it. I try and incorporate the food into my diet in various ways. Popular in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar Uttarakhand, and even some parts of Pakistan Sattu is a protein-rich, plant-based flour made from dry-roasted Bengal gram or chickpeas. This recently recognized superfood is said to have originated in Tibet where it is called TSampa.It is also available in different forms, such as wheat, barley or Jowar. Sattu ki Kadi  owar.  Sattu is especially beneficial during the summer because of its cooling properties. Sattu is unique to Bihari cuisine and Litti Choka remains a popular dish even among non-Biharis.
