JOMO and FOMO
FOMO FOMO, or ‘ the Fear of Missing Out, ’ o ften plagues us. We could be missing out on watching a movie with friends, or they are out on a picnic in which we were not included or couldn’t join in, and the news has been shared on social media. Our brains are hardwired to seek acceptance, and hence we may experience feelings of anxiety, anger, resentment, and inadequacy as we scroll through social media feeds. What we fail to remember is that what we see on the screen may not be an accurate representation of how things actually are. JOMO JOMO, or the ‘ Joy of missing out,’ is choosing quality over quantity. It’s about choosing to skip a dinner party that we may feel obligated to attend and not feeling guilty about not attending or feeling that we are missing out on what is happening.
